About the Book
After my flight to Scotland was cancelled because of the coronavirus I was extremely disappointed. I had been looking forward to playing some of the golf courses there, some famous, some not so famous and visiting family and friends. During the stay at home order I had been continuing to work on my art skills in the evenings.
You don’t often see women featured in Golf art and I have a picture of the Metropolitan Amateur Champion Maureen Orcutt above my desk which inspired me to focus more in this area. She had an incredibly interesting life as a top amateur golfer as well as being a sportswriter.
So The Girl in the Red Dress was born. I wanted her to be striking, bold and confident as she played her game. Luckily, she didn’t need a plane to take her anywhere, so she could go wherever she wanted to go.
She did need a golfing buddy to accompany her, so Whisky the Westie was created to add another element of playfulness and fun to the story.
It was very difficult to choose the golf courses she would play because there are so many great courses in Scotland. I tried to limit myself to around 18 courses, selected because of their visual appeal, memories and enjoyment.
So I combined my love of golf, art, Scotland and writing to create this story. I hope it makes you smile and takes you to a different place, where your dreams can come true and anything is possible. I also hope you book a trip to Scotland and experience golf there for yourself.
And in case you are wondering, I have never owned a red dress, I have never played golf in a dress nor do I have a Westie called Whisky. But maybe I should consider at least one of these.
Putt well,
Valerie
