Let’s Make Putting Easy! Yes, really…
One of the things I see so often with golfers is that we are very quick to blame ourselves when we miss putts. We think we are not confident enough, or that our stroke is not good enough, or that we simply need to practise more.
And yes, practice matters. Confidence matters too. But I also think we have to be honest about the equipment we are using, because sometimes the problem is not just us. Sometimes our putter is making putting harder than it needs to be.
That is really why the Frankly Frog was designed. Frank believed that a putter should help the golfer. It should help you aim more clearly, start the ball on your intended line, control your distance, and feel more comfortable over the ball.
For me, one of the most important features of the Frog is that all Frankly Frogs are face balanced, no matter which shaft option you choose. In simple terms, face balancing helps the putter resist twisting. That matters because the putter face has such a big influence on where the ball starts.
You can read the green well and make a perfectly reasonable stroke, but if the face is slightly open or closed at impact, the ball is not going to start on the line you intended. The Frog is designed to help deliver the face square at impact, which gives you a much better chance of starting more putts on line and holing more putts.
Forgiveness is another big part of the story. None of us make a perfect stroke every time, and a forgiving putter gives you more help when your stroke is not perfect. The original Frankly Frog gives maximum forgiveness, so if you struggle with consistency, alignment, or distance control, that is usually the model I would want you to look at first.
I also love the sole design. The radius sole helps prevent the putter from catching, sticking, or snagging on the ground. That might sound like a small thing, but if your putter catches slightly on the way back or drags through the stroke, your confidence can disappear very quickly. The Frog is designed to glide.
Alignment matters too. The bold white alignment lines help you see where the face is aiming, and if you need extra help, the Frog can also be built with the Alignment Guidance System shaft option.
And finally, your putter must fit you. So many of us are using putters that are too long, often handed down at 34 or 35 inches. I really do not think that is good enough. A putter should allow your arms to hang naturally and help you feel balanced and comfortable.
So this week, take five minutes and ask yourself honestly: is your putter helping you aim, resist twisting, return the face square, and feel confident?
If not, maybe it is time to stop blaming yourself and get into a putter that actually helps.
