How to “Master” Fast Greens Like the Pros at Augusta
As the world’s best take on Augusta National this week, you may be inspired (or intimidated!) by the speed of those greens. Here are three key tips to help you handle fast greens with confidence during your next round:
1. Play more break
On fast greens, the ball rolls out more and putts break more than you might expect. Trust your read and give the ball room to move. It’s important to visualize this before you putt, create the picture in your mind of the ball falling in the hole.
2. Don’t force it
Keep your natural rhythm, stroke path, and impact point. The only change? Make a shorter backstroke to control distance but maintain your rhythm. You don’t need to “hit it softer”—just let the faster surface do the work. Practicing on the putting green before your round (ideally at the same speed as the course) will help you calibrate. Step up with confidence and commitment.
3. Trust the surface
The good news? Fast greens are usually well-maintained and consistent. That means your putts are more likely to stay on line—as long as you trust your stroke and commit to the line you choose.

“After just one session, I felt completely different over the ball—calm, focused, and confident. I stopped second-guessing myself and started making more putts. Can’t recommend this enough.”
