If we have reasonably good eyesight, we will have peÂripheral vision, which allows us to sense things around us even though we are not looking directly at them. This wide-angle peripheral vision (approximately 160 degrees in humans) is very important to us if we do not want to trip over the curb or step in a hole, etc.
Unfortunately, this peripheral vision can be a detriment when putting – especially if you have a Type-“A†personality and want to be in total control of everything you do, so to dampen your peripheral vision, focus on a spot throughout the stroke.
For more details about what you should look at and when, make reference to Chapter 9 of The Fundamentals of Putting, one of the most informative books about putting ever written.
